Extreme Dix Adventures of the Dix

4th of July Fun!

Glenn and Forrest decided they wanted to participate in a night jump on the 4th at Skydive City in Zephyrhills, FL. They both needed to get their B licenses first in order to be qualified to make the jump at night.

Glenn had made two jumps the day before and needed another 5 jumps with 4 of them qualifying as accuracy landings. The first jump went very smoothly and both Glenn and Forrest landed on target within about 10ft. Unfortunately, Glenn had a bad landing on the second jump and injured his shoulder which put him out of commission for the time being.

After waiting through a couple hours of rain, the weather finally cleared up and Forrest continued jumping. While waiting between loads he also took and passed the test for his B license. In total he performed 6 skydives with 5 of them being during the day and one being his first night jump!

Some highlights other than Glenn's injury were when Forrest broke his personal best for maximum freefall speed reaching 174mph in a head-down body position. This beat his previous record of 160mph. On another jump, Forrest beat another personal best by doing ten back flips out of the airplane; doubling his previous record of five.

All in all, it was an eventful day and Glenn is expected to recover quickly. Until next time, Blue Skies!!!

UPDATE from Glenn 7/10/2009:

An orthopedic surgeon reviewed x-ray and MRI images of my shoulder and stated that I may have either nearly torn the rotator cuff off the bone or pulled the bone apart. He stated that I won’t be able to proceed with the Yosemite rock climbing trip in a week, but it should heal within six weeks as long as I don’t fall on it again. Considering that the next step would be to put things back together with a screw, I’ll not be rock climbing, SCUBA diving, or skydiving for the next few weeks as I had intended. I’m looking forward to making a full recovery and getting back to it all between mid-August and Labor Day!
